Rica Agnes Castaneda (Canada)

Rica Agnes Castaneda is a mixed-methods Researcher at the Canada Excellence in Research Chair in Migration and Integration at Toronto Metropolitan University. She is working on the  Decentering Migration Knowledge (DemiKnow)  project under the SSHRC Partnership Development Grant, examining international student experiences in Canada and the dynamic role of families in their migration decision-making process.

She is also a PhD Policy Studies candidate at Toronto Metropolitan University under the Immigration, Settlement and Diaspora stream. She completed her Master’s in International Studies at the National University of Singapore as an ASEAN Graduate Scholar, and was an Erasmus Mundus Scholar at the Universiteit van Amsterdam in the Netherlands and Universidad Deusto in Bilbao, Spain.

Her background is in Asian migrations, comparative politics and the developing world. Her research interests include migration policy and governance, and how it frames and is shaped by transnational practices.
