The Bridging Divides and CERC Migration Exchange Fellowship Program provides an opportunity for exceptional advanced PhD students (3rd year or later), post-doctoral fellows and early career researchers from TMU and UC San Diego to participate in a one-month research exchange. The Bridging Divides and CERC Migration Exchange Fellowship Program offers a stipend to both the outgoing and incoming Visiting Fellows, along with a travel allowance, to cover for the expenses
related to their stay abroad.
The purpose of the Bridging Divides and CERC Migration Exchange Fellowship Program is to promote international collaboration and knowledge exchange among Canadian and international academic institutions and provide research training and professional development opportunities for early-career scholars in migration research
The Exchange Fellow will be hosted by Toronto Metropolitan University for a period of up to 35 days. Timing of a visit will be arranged by the mentor/supervisor at Toronto Metropolitan University. The duration of stay may vary from 20 to 35 days. This program is currently available through June 30, 2029.
Financial Support:
For living and travel allowance: to support your research work, Toronto Metropolitan University will pay you a stipend in the amount of $4500 CAD maximum for the duration of your visit to the university. Please note that this is subject to a 15% withholding tax and due to processing times, it can take up to 30-45 days from arrival for your payment. TMU
may buy a travel ticket or accommodation for you, with the amount of the purchase subtracted from your total stipend allowance.
Fellows will be required to secure their own accommodation during the visit to the Host Institution.
Fellows will also need to have comprehensive health insurance coverage for the period of the visit at the Host Institution
Eligibility for UCSD applicants:
UC San Diego post-doctoral researchers, early career faculty members (0-8 years from PhD), and PhD students who have advanced to candidacy.
Only one Fellowship will be awarded for each calendar year.
Application Process:
Applicants must submit a short CV (max 4 pages) and a short outline / letter explaining the motivation of their stay at Toronto Metropolitan University and how that stay will benefit their research.
Application deadline for Research Exchanges between January to June of each year is June 1 of the previous year.
The successful applicant will be notified by July 1.
