Doctoral Candidate
Lucia Canul is a doctoral candidate in Global Health in the joint doctoral program at UC San Diego Herbert Wertheim School of Public Health and Human Longevity Science and San Diego State University School of Public Health. She has a B.S. in Nutrition from Cal Poly SLO, an M.S. in Nutrition from Texas Woman’s University, and is licensed as a Registered Dietitian after completing a dietetic internship at Tulane University School of Public Health and Tropical Medicine.
Her academic and professional experiences have shaped her research in public health nutrition, food security, and culturally responsive care. Her doctoral dissertation focuses on community, clinical, and policy strategies to improve nutrition services for Latino and Indigenous Latin American populations. She centers the voices and lived experiences of Mexican, Indigenous, and migrant communities across the U.S.-Mexico border to inform disease prevention and health promotion through cultural knowledge and heritage
