Adriana López Acle Delgado

Doctoral Student

Adriana López Acle Delgado is a Ph.D. student in the Sociology Department at UCSD and UC MEXUS–CONACYT Doctoral Fellow. Having grown up in Tijuana, she has been interested in Mexican migration and the U.S.-Mexico border since a young age. In the past decade, her dedication to projects that serve migrant communities has strengthened. Her current research attempts to understand the impact of experiences of violence endured by asylum-seekers while in transit through Mexico on their migration decisions.

Before attending UCSD, she worked at El Colegio de la Frontera Norte (El Colef), a renowned Mexican social research center. She worked on various research projects that focused on issues of significant regional importance, such as the socioeconomic and cultural impacts of contemporary migration on the U.S.-Mexico border. Additionally, during 2018, she worked as a mentor to graduate students specializing in International Migration.

Adriana holds a MA in Regional Studies from El Colef. During her master's studies, she analyzed Mexican social policy and Civil Society programs available to support Mexican Deportees living in the border region. As an undergraduate student, she participated in the transnational dual degree program MEXUS between San Diego State University and the Universidad Autónoma de Baja California and graduated with highest honors.

Her research interests include forced migration, immigration policy, and U.S.-Mexico border studies.

Adriana was a participant of the MMFRP during 2020-2021. For more information on the MMFRP, visit: https://mmfrp.org/
